Exquisite Corpse at Kaleid Gallery

Andromeda

July 2012

From Kaleid Gallery:

Exquisite Corpse Exhibition & Opening Reception
Saturday July 14th, 7pm–10pm

Exquisite Corpse is based on the Surrealists' techniques exploiting the mystique of spontaneity and collaborative creativity through a visual parlor game.

Each Exquisite Corpse participating artist was given a blank piece of paper on which they created one third of a figure (head or torso or legs, assigned at random). KALEID Gallery staff then collected and arranged all 69 unique works of art into what promises to be a fantastic exhibit of unexpected visual mayhem.

Opening reception: Saturday, July 14th at 7pm
Live improv music by Rebel Skamp
Tasty morsels by David Ramsey
Dress for surreal fun and games!
free & open to the public

Gemini

Gemini

June 2012

This is a double headed self-portrait symbolizing our dual personalities. We don't always have one self. We have the side we tend to show to people (the side that is socially acceptable that we want people to know us for) and the side we show to those few we trust or perhaps to no one (that side is more intimate, perhaps more of our true self).

April 2012

This is a portrait of a friend of mine. I usually work in a very clean style, but for this painting I decided to try some loose brushwork and a more restricted color palette. It was fun to paint and I enjoyed the result. I think I will experiment some more with painting in this style.

I wanted to continue with my space watercolor series so I decided two different space ships (a rocket ship and a ufo) would do.

Greetings From Outer Space
watercolor on watercolor paper, 4 inches by 6 inches
June 2011

Greetings, fellow space travelers! It's Hollis again, this time on another outer space adventure to Saturn.

I wanted to continue my spaceman watercolor series. This time I decided to add a retro rocket ship and a planet and moon in the background. Onward and upward!

June 2011

When I was in elementary school I was a Young Astronaut. I grew up right by NASA and I always thought it would be so cool to travel into outer space. Nowadays, I mainly just stick to my science fiction movies and books and after reading "Kaleidoscope" by Ray Bradbury I decided to paint this (hence the name Hollis on the astronaut). I'll just go ahead and say he has a happier fate though.

I think this is pretty self-explanatory... you shouldn't value material possessions (jewelry, money, fancy clothes) above all, there are more important things in life.

This is my interpretation of the greedy executive who profits off of the destruction of others and the environment. He doesn't think so, but he's really just a ridiculous clown, someone who does not deserve our time and respect.

Been Watchin' Too Many Cartoons

May 2011

After watching too much Ren and Stimpy, I just had to paint something that was literally eye-popping. This was a lot of fun and makes me want to do some Rat Fink type of art.

This was a piece done for my painting class in college. I love my husband's hands, all the little lines and creases. This painting took a while, but I was really happy with the final result.

Salvador Dali

My favorite artist! I have loved Salvador Dali and his art for years and so the first painting I wanted to create for my college painting course was this one, based off of a famous photograph of the artist.
